Why I Love Amy Lee- Evanescence

Why I Love Amy Lee-Evanescence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bBKaFRtYAk - Lost in Paradise and My Heart is Broken- Evanescence- live 2012.

There is a long list of reasons, musical or not, why Amy Lee is a person I idolise. However, I shall only write a few.

To begin with, only a select few can play an instrument and sing at the same time with the same level of skill that Amy Lee possesses. All of the songs (other than covers) she and Evanescence play, are written by them. Amy Lee writes most of the lyrics; when she sings you can tell in her body and in her voice that the song means a lot to her. That is one of the reasons I admire her; she sings (and plays other instruments) with such heart, passion and indisputable skill that to see her perform live, with the skilled musicians of Evanescence, is unforgettable.

One of the non-musical reasons why I favour Amy Lee, is because she does what she likes on a superficial level and regarding her apparel. She does not possess the super-thin-size-zero-skin-and-bones look that the world of Hollywood-supremacy promotes. She is a beautiful woman that is curvy and isn’t ashamed of how she looks. She hasn’t let her natural curves define how the world views her (she’s not even big). I respect anyone who does what they like in spite of what society says, but Amy Lee more so because I feel I can relate to her.

The majority of rock bands are either completely male or male dominated as with Evanescence. To be the female front of a rock band is a thing I respect. It is seldom done because women often feel patronised in the male dominated world of rock music. To be a respected female in the world of rock, you need to be outstanding. Amy Lee is respected in the rock world, you know what that means?  I’ll give you a guess.

As a singer that has been trained using operatic techniques (although I do not sing opera), I can tell that Amy is also using operatic techniques to get such power and tone behind her voice.  She knows how to use dynamics very well; it is more noticeable sometimes, when watching a live performance.  When singing with a live band, it is easy to get eaten up and not be heard, but Amy’s distinctive tone and power overcomes that with ease. In fact, in the performance of “My Heart is Broken” which is performed with the whole of Evanescence the whole way through, she seemed more at home or relaxed than when it was just her and her piano in the beginning of “Lost in Paradise”. More often than not, the more relaxed you are the better the performance- and I’m going to contradict myself a bit here- but even when it was just her and her piano, she filled the room with her incredible voice and piano skills.

Furthermore, I think that Amy Lee is one of the most talented musicians out there and the Evanescence should be better known because they make incredible music. Just my opinion, do you share it?
Much Love, The Purple Rose
Listen While I'm Talking, that way I'll listen to you :)
